I have a few Volvo questions...
Repair Manual: I've seen a lot of references to the Bentley manual. I checked on e-bay and amazon books, and the only ones were for 83 and onward. Is there a Bentley for the 81, and if not what's the best manual out there for an 81?
Synthetic vs regular oil, and oil viscosity. Is there a difference with running on synthetic? If using standard oil, what's the best viscosity and brand to use?
I'd like to fix the power locks; they went on strike before I bought her. Is that a mechanism within the door or a relay elswhere? Any trouble shooting tips welcome.
Hershey the noisy Volvo. I love her to death, but the mufflers don't seem to muffle so well anymore. How do you tell if it's a pipe, or one of the mufflers, or the exhaust manifold? How much do exhaust components run and is a muffler something that a relatively green mechanic can take on?
A cosmetic issue: There's a black grimy dust that appears on the ceilings of mine, my sisters, and my dad's volvos, usually more noticable around the edges. Attempts to clean it only seem to smear it around. Any ideas on what it is and what's the best way to clean it off?
Lastly, the heater blower seems to have taken to preferential treatment. When blowing on the feet, the passenger side gets gale force winds, and the drivers side feels like the doldrums. Sounds like a vent is closed off or disconnected somewhere. Where would I look for that?
