Alternator warning light 140-160 1968

The alternator warning light on my 1968 144 doesn't come on. I've swapped the globe with a known good one (from the oil pressure warning light), so that's not it. My wiring diagram is a bit hard to follow for older eyes, but as far as I can see, the wire from the connector tab should go straight to the alternator. Is this correct? If so, I can run a temporary wire directly, to eliminate problems on the PC board before I start hunting through the wiring loom for the problem.

By the way, the advice this board gave on removing the instrument unit was spot on: take off the top cover on the steering column, disconnect the speedo cable, twist and wriggle. Thanks guys.
