Hi,
An '87 760GLE (V6) with 192k miles.
This is the 2nd post for today. This problem has been bothering me for quite some time now: leaking coolant from the top of the water pump. It seems to me coolant is coming from the thermostat seal between thermostat housing and water pump in my case. A small amount of coolant can be seen residing on the top of the engine compartment behind the water pump, and on the ground when parked over night. I have to top up the reservoir almost every week. I had the pressure test done about two months ago, and it passed. I pointed up that small amount of greenish coolant still setting on the top of the engine compartment to the mechnic at the time. The guy told me when engine is running hot, the coolant can be comeing out from the seals. But what I found out laterly is quite the opposite. When engine is runing hot, the water pump and area around it is dry. I already ordered a water pump for a replacement. I am wondering could it be simply the thermostat seal is the cause of the leaking? BTW, the needle on the temperature gauge stays at 12 o'clock position all the time.
Any suggestion is appreciated.
