HELP ME PLEASE B280F TROUBLES 700 1987

Hi, I have a 1987 780 with B280f that has a annoying problem. After washing the engine the engine refuses to go over 2500rpm(load/no load). When I hit 2500 it acts as if it hits a rev limiter and drops off to 1000-1500rpm. I changed all the usual suspects(cap, rotor, plugs, and wires) to no avail. When checking with a timming light, it flickers whn the imaginary rev limit is hit. ANY and ALL suggestions, hints, and HELP is greatly appreciated
