I called the Carquest manager this morning to advise him that the repair shop was not following our agreement to replace the calipers under warranty. I also explained all the other work they did without my permission. He said he would call them right after we got off the phone.
Thirty minutes later, the repair shop called me at work and told me they were reinstalling my old distribution block and they wanted the car out of their shop. I said "OK, fine" and he hung up the phone.
We went to get the car this afternoon and I was charged nothing, but the invoice said they would refuse to do any more work on the car which was fine by me.
They also wrote on there that the brakes are unsafe... gee! wonder why?
I had informed him when he called that he had broken the law by not giving me a written estimate and that by law, I was not obligated to pay for any unauthorized repairs or work that they did on my car. I think that is why he didn't fight me about the bill because he knew I was right. He didn't say a word to me when we picked up the car. My wife was waiting outside and said he pulled the car around front in a huff. He got out and gave my wife a nasty look and stormed inside the office. He handed me my copy of the invoice and we traded keys (we were driving one of their loaner clunker cars). I popped the hood to check the brake fluid level and did a walk around to make sure the car had not been damaged and then we left.
So the car is at home now and tonight I have to check the distribution block to see if it's really leaking. I did find a pool of brake fluid on top of my AMM adjustment screw which I promply cleaned out. I don't know if that was an accident or they intentionally put it there in hopes it would leak down inside my AMM and ruin it. There was a lot of fluid in there to be an accident though.
Now I'm back to square one and I'm going to work on the car myself until it is repaired correctly starting with removing the front calipers. I'll probably go ahead and replace the brake lines while I'm there. At least the car is back home now and out of the hands of those idiots.
