Any one ever change from struts in a 240 wagon?

The last time I changed the front struts in my 84 240 wagon I had a hard time getting the top nut off. It seemed as if a special Volvo tool would make this much easier as it would keep the strut from spinning. Anyone know about it? any tips? Appreciate any input.
