Fuel Pump Road Repairs 200 1984

Cross country drive from VA to CA in my 84 245Ti/AW-71 has gone real well. 70-75 mph all day long; 600-700 miles per day, through lots of rain too without any problems.

Today in the high desert around Flagstaff, pushing 80 mph, a/c on, all of a sudden started misfiring, lost power, and when I slowed at the off ramp I could hear the main fuel pump singing like the prepump was out. Checked fuses/OK, checked/reseated connectors and grounds, even spliced the wires under the floor board (wagon) where it looked like it was broken/crimped. Had a heck of a time getting the prepump to work again... Finally, Seems to be working OK, so whatever I did fixed it. Drove 125 more miles till I called it a day.

Does the fuel pump relay have anything to do with the operation of the pre-pump or does it control main pump only? Where is the fuel pump relay located on this car? Would have been the next thing I would have looked at. Have one more day of driving till I hit SoCal...

Thanks, Robert
