Mass Airflow Sensor Compatibility 200 1987

Greetings from Cleveland...home of the Perpetual Winter: Need some knowledgable advice on the effect of different MAS on drivability. My trusty 1987 blew out the previous one (Bosch part XXX XXX 007) which was replaced with another used unit. The car has since then, stumbled and bumbled and often feels like it's about to stall. Upon checking, I noticed that the MAS is not a 007 unit, but another....the number escapes me at the present....that looks exactly the same. Does this make a difference to the point that it would cause the problems described? (all other systems have been replaced or checked, so I need only the answer to this inquiry.) Thanks

Brad
