Switching to synthetics...good or bad idea...? 900

I am reading the posts about benefits of synthetic oil and ATF, but also heard that this is not beneficial for older cars since the switch can cause leaks in seals...
I am thinking about switching to syntheticoil and ATF for my 1992 960 (132K miles). Does anyone switched to synthetics with a car of similar age ? Did anybody experienced any problems after switching ? Thanks.
