URGENT!!....NO SEAT BELTS...PLEASE HELP 200

I took the seat belts out of my 1988 240 and tried to transfer them into my 1985...so that i would have that storage compartment/cup holder inbetween the seats. well, as i was installing the belts themselves in to the 1985...i noticed that they were locked. How the hell do i unlock them?...i am totally upset and confused about this, i don't know what to do and i have no seat belts. any help on this is greatly appreciated!.
