M47 Tranny's , Are they as much trouble as my volvo mechanic tells me? 700

I've heard that they are alot of trouble and are usualy expensive to fix?
Is this true?

If So I have a 1983 240 GL with a M46 would it be possible to just swap trannies and driveshafts????
