I had to buy another door panel. Had no choice. I had to cut a hole in the original one to get the door open.
What I found was this: Inside the door, there is a rod that connects the door handle to the door mechanism. When I connected the rod to the mechanism I lifted the mechanism up to far. This threw the whole thing off.
The rod is adjustable, so I just made it long enough to attach to the door mechanism with out having to lift it more than about 1/16th". Now it works perfectly.
It all started when the door wouldnt open from the outside, but would open from the inside. I found the pin that holds the operation together had worked its way out, and the handle was no longer attached to the mechanism that opens the door.
I hope this helps someone.

A liitle humor:
I asked the guy where I bought the panel from if there was any way to get the door open without destroying the panel. His answer: yea, you can drill a hole through the door. Everyone wants to be a comedian...
