ac problems 960 900 1995

Okay!
last summer the compressor died,after a day in the shop they found out that it was the (presstostat) a little pressure device on the top of the ac house,
today the compressor stopped again, then i tok of the cable from the presstostat and shortcircuit it(did i write it right) the the compressor started, is there a possibility that it is something else that is jamming so the presstostat i failuring or is that just a sensitive thing..
