Fuel gauge problems 900

I have a problem with the fuel gauge on my '97 940 SE Auto.
It started to give inaccuate readings (less fuel than there really was).
Now it is stuck on empty with the low fuel warning light glowing.
Does anyone know what the expected resistance should be on the sender with a three-quarter full tank? (I really dont't want to remove the unit and find it is OK).
Is there a voltage stabiliser and if so where?
