The orange wire.. 200 1986

Hello again!

I just pulled out my instrument cluster to replace the dead clock with a tach / small clock kit that I acquired. Nice to have plug and play instrumentation, both work great now, except for the light on the clock (I assume that it IS supposed to be illuminated). Has anyone changed those bulbs? How do those clocks come apart?

However, as I was putting everything back together, I noticed that there was an orange wire hanging behind the instrument cluster, with no apparent place to go to. The other end is connected to a black box, about the size of a box of 3.5" floppies. This box reads Volvo in big white letters and also has a bunch of numbers on it. It has about 10 wires going into it.

Two questions

a) What is that box? The Haynes (I know, I know, get a Bentley) manual's diagrams don't seem to have any mention of it.
b) Where does that orange wire go to? Someone mentioned it is a part of the cruise control system and should go on the double terminal on the instrument cluster. If so, then which side should I stick it?
