Outer Tie Rod End Replacement - Home Remedies? 200 1988

I suspect it's time for an outer tie rod end on the left front (performed the wheel jiggle test side-to-side). Doesn't look like a difficult job in the Bentley manual, but it mentions using either a press or a Volvo Special Tool for removal of the tie rod end from the steering arm to avoid damaging something.

Anybody have any home remedies? Is this job as easy as it looks?
