Sunroof leaks, not covered by FAQ 700 1988

I recently purchased a 1988 Volvo 740 sedan for $2400 that has quite a few miles on it, but is really in quite excellent shape overall, and I'm very pleased with it. The only significant problems it has are cosmetic, and of these by far the biggest problem is the headliner. The power sunroof works, but it obviously has a history of leaking, judging from all the stains and tears in the headliner around it. It looks pretty nasty. I followed the advice of the FAQ about leaky sunroofs, and I blew out the channels and tubes along the sides of the roof opening to permit better water drainage. That mostly fixed the problem. Now, the headliner stays dry in almost all situations, including the heaviest rain storms. The only time that it still leaks is at the automatic car wash. Especially bad is the last cycle, when the car is dried by an enormous jet of warm air. At that point, I still usually wind up with a puddle in my lap. This kind of leak is minor enough that I can certainly live with it, but the headliner is so ugly that I'd like to replace it, and I'd hate to spend the money and energy on it only to have it get messed up again the next time the roof leaks. Maybe the real lesson in all of this is that I should take the time and wash my car by hand every time, but I'm a busy guy and sometimes the automatic car wash at the gas station is awfully appealling. And I have to believe that there's a way to get the sunroof to not leak, even in high-pressure situations. Please advise.
