Bertone with sore nose. 700

Last week I thought it would be a good idea to take a powersprayer and
clean all the winter sand, salt and grime out of the engine
compartiment. My ignition cables were severely "crappy"... cracked
through the insulation and several were broken where the PO had pulled
on them in an attempt to get the plug boots off. So, the extra water
did them in. After the engine had it's bath, the car was misfiring
like crazy on acceleration (undrivable) and when 4,000 rpm is reached
the car falls flat on its face. No power. Tach drops to ZERO. As soon
as the revs come down a bit, the engine fires back up and continues to
run, tach resuming actual RPM.

So, I picked up some new silicone ignition cables and a new coil just
for fun. After installation the misfiring is gone but the car still
dies at 4000 rpm. Anybody have any idea what might cause this? It
sucks pulling out to pass somone and the car dies.

Another thing... There is no power at higher rpms. At 4,000
it feels like the engine does not want to rev any higher. Almost like
there is a whole bunch of ignition retard or similar.

Thanks a bunch,
