Just got back from a little (1200 mile )trip and became determined to fix the odometer problem in my '83 240 wagon. Had the instument cluster half way out, reached around and felt for the speedo cable, unscrewed it, then pulled the cluster a little more out to unplug the electrical connectors and realized (afterward) that I must have broken off the plastic knob that holds the speedo cable, the cable that I thought was the speedo cable was something else (like a speedo cable, but hooked to a box with an electrical connector that was hooked to nothing.) So now (oh,shit, here I go again) I'm getting in deeper!
Two questions: now that I've got the cluster out, how do I get the speedo unit out of the cluster? Looks like its held into the white plastic housing by the black plastic nut around back, but for the life of me, I can't figure out how to take it off!! (don't want to break anything else)
Secondly will I have to replace the speedo cable housing now, or can I just repace the nut to secure the cable to the speedometer?
many thanks in advance,
cliff
