940GLE needs starter solenoid and alternator's Bosch regulator 900 1991

Hi all,

This board has been very helpful in fixing things for those D.I.Y aspirated. I thank those who have given useful tips and suggestions on fixing the problems in the past.

My 1991 940GLE 16 valve is acting up again. Yesterday after a short drive I tried to restart - starter did not crank. No noise of anthing at work except for the noise of the fuel pump and the injectors (i think). After searching nearby I found an A/C gas container (some fools left it in a public PARKING LOT!!!- but handy for my purpose). Gave a few whacks on the starter and it cranked right away. This morning drove to work and after about 10 minutes I went back to my car and it refused to crank. This time I found a brick and whacked the starter again and it cranked. Of course another solution would be to let starter to cool down by waiting for about half an hour and it would crank.

O.K guys whacking the starter de-stresses me and its kind of enjoying 'dominating fettish' feeling in the love affair with my car but it can't go on forever. Solution is getting new solenoid and starter but it costs a bomb over this part of the world for a brand new starter/solenoid (they come together). Of course I can get it from car junkyard but my current starter/solenoid is from the junkyard. I changed it about a year and half ago.

Can somebody let me know how much it would cost in the U.S or Canada for a brand new solenoid/starter. If its cheaper, hey I don't mind getting it.

Thanks
