converting to r134a or freeze12? 200 1990

I have a 1990 240 and the compressor isnt turning on. Probably looking at a new compressor to fix the problem since all the tricks tto get the compressor to start have failed. auto dismantelers have quoted me for $65 for a used compressor. Now could I just put in the salvaged compressor and put r134a in there.....or freeze12...I have recharged 2 of my other cars with 134a without changeing anything out...just dumping the stuff in there and they both blow cold and Im satisfiied with them.
