Throttle position sensor & busy transmission in a 92-960 900

First of all this is a great site! I finally got around to trying a procedure to cure my 960 of busy shifting (or premature locking and then unlocking of the torque converter I don’t know which). I tried to disconnect the large electrical harness to clean it but I could not get it apart, it seems to be siliconed or glued together, so I tried the throttle position sensor test suggested in the FAQ. I went for a drive, warmed up the car, and took a certain route to monitor the frequency of shifting. I then disconnected the TPS and took the same route. The car lit up with a code but I continued on my merry way. This is what I found: I liked how the transmission felt, it held gears better, the shifting was crisper, the car seemed peppier, and there was significantly less shifting or locking/unlocking of the torque converter (whatever the problem is, if any of these). Here is the interesting part: the engine was idling when I disconnected the TPS and there was a jump in the RPM from about 600 to about 900 (if my tach is telling the truth).

So here are my questions: what is the normal idle for a B6304F?, are my positive observations purely a result of higher RPMs?, is the TPS faulty and if yes why is it not throwing a code?, does the TPS need adjusting?, does the idle need adjusting (I though it was automatic on the B6304F engine)?, is new TPS expensive just to see if it cures the problem? OR is the problem the premature locking and then unlocking of the torque converter in 3rd and 4th gears since with higher RPMs, there is enough power to lock the converter and keep it locked?, what is the most likely problem and its solution?

I would appreciate your expertise!
