I'm attempting to install the red poly strut rod bushings from fcpgroton on a 1989 765 Tic. The rubber bushings weren't lasting 20 k miles before being chewed up, so I'm hoping this will eliminate the brake shudder and give me some longer wear. The problem is I can't get the flippin' bolt through the bushings to tighten up. FAQ on the 700/900 list says use a longer bolt, compress the bushings, then quickly pull the longer bolt out and slip the right one in. I'm all over that. The problem is that the poly doesn't hold the shape and instantly comes back out to it's original size. I've done this on the rubber bushings and this trick works well, but it just isn't working on the poly bushings.
Anybody have any pearls of wisdom to share? If not, any suggestions on getting more wear out of the stock bushings?
You're advice is most eagerly sought. BTE, the search on here didn't turn up anything useful. The questions abowt the length of the insert shaft don't seem to make much sense to me. The real issue will be the compressed length of the bushings, the shaft only aligns them.
