Weeellll,
Since my last posting here (ages ago) i've upgraded another amp in my car ;)
Now my system totals about 1300w RMS, which means about 110 amps current drain when it's turned up. Normally, i only play the stereo loud with the car off, or idling 'cause i can't stand driving with the stereo up real loud. Now, my question is this, my car ALWAYS sits at 13.4v with everything electrical off (reading from a DMM). When i turn headlights and thermo fan (10amps - conversion) and int. fan on "2" and brake lights, i get about 12.3v.
Which is coming REAL close to battery float (meaning draining more than alternator can handle). My battery is about 1.5 yrs old, and i am using my system more and more while the car is running. Now, i've heard it really strains the alternator and will kill it.... is that true? It's the original alternator, but then again, people say i should get more like 13.8v at least continous. Will the 110A current drain kill the alternator? how?
Any ideas/help etc appreciated
Thanks,
Az
