Hello all,
For two decades in North America we have seen Ford Escorts, Tempos, and now the Focus... GM Sunfires & Cavaliers... Dodge K cars, Neons... Honda Civics... Toyota Corollas... and the list goes on.
Why did we not see Volvo sell the 400 series FWD here to compete with these best sellers of questionable quality? In Europe the 400's sold well. I think they missed the boat on that one. Brand loyalty is a big factor in North America. I suspect if people could have started out in an affordable 400 series they would have eventually graduated up to larger, more expensive models over time.
Any ideas as to why Volvo didn't market more affordable, smaller models here?
