weird vibration/noise, from transmission? 200

Hey Everyone,
I have an 89 240 with a/t, and when I accelerate, the shift stick vibrates and I hear a loud noise. I'm really at a loss for what it might be. I'm about to go on a road trip, and this noise/vibration is kind of scaring me. If anyone has any suggestions, I would apprediate the help.
