Thank you to all who gave me advice on my first message.
After my timing belt failed at 65mph on my 93 960, I have been able to remove the cylinder head. I found all 12 intake valves bent and 4 exhaust valves bent. All six pistons have approx. 0.030 to 0.063 inch deep gouges from the intake valves. I am very concerned about the depth of the gouges. I now have several repair options to consider, each with questions I have for the forum:
1. Blend piston wear, install my rebuilt cylinder head, go to confession and sell car. Price: $700 for parts and head rebuild. How thick is the piston head? Is this even possible? Should I replace all cam seals?
2. Replace pistons, install my rebuilt cylinder head, drive on. Price $1500 for parts. How can I replace pistons without removing block?
3. Replace engine with engine from salvaged 960 (Auto Disassembly Volvo, Atlanta). Price $2000 for parts.
4. Replace engine with new Volvo engine. Price $5300.
I now have a bad 960 taste in my mouth. I would like to fix and sell. On the otherhand, the bank said I can afford to spend up to $2500. V8 conversion perhaps. Please help.
