oil leak 700 1987

Hey folks, I've got another question or two on the "new" 740 I just got. First, I've got a rather impressive oil leak that I think must be coming from the rear seal, but can't really verify that. I'm certain it is engine oil, but doesn't really look as if it is coming from the bell housing. I removed the little plastic panel on the bottom where you can look up inside at the ring gear, and it appears to be dry in there. What gives? I cleaned the flame trap the other day, and now it wants to start leaking. Also, if I end up replacing the rear seal, how much of a pain in the @#$ is this to do? It's an automatic, but I don't know what model it is. How do I tell? By the way, thanks to all of you who have responded to my questions in the past. You've been "on spot" always. Thanks again...
