overdrive problems on AT... (solenoid, relay, or switch)? 200 1989

For about a year now, the up-arrow light would randomly come on and go off... sometimes it would come on but the overdrive wouldnt disengage, and sometimes it would. In the past few weeks, it's always on and the overdrive will never engage. What needs to be replaced, the solenoid, the relay, or the switch? I'm wouldn't think the solenoid.. and I'd put my money on the switch, but it might be the relay. So.. which is it? (or am I an ass, and it's neither of those 3?)
