engine coolant temp on 1993 960 wagon 900

Hello everyone,

Help! I'm having some problems with my 1993 960 wagon, purchased in Feb. with 140,000 miles after the sudden demise of my 203,000 mile 240 wagon.

1. The check engine light came on and my husband and I checked the swedish bricks FAQ's and read an LH2.4 Fuel injection fault engine code 2-3-2 Fuel trim (lambda control) too lean or too rich at idle.

We didn’t notice any problems with the engine operation and cleared the code.

2. A couple of days later, usually during the first 10 minutes after starting the car, it hesitates and will not accelerate. Stepping on the gas does nothing – the RPM stays at about 1,000 and the car won’t go more than 20 mph. Within a minute or two, it will start running more smoothly and will accelerate and gain speed.

3. The car failed the emissions test with high NOx levels.

4. The heater/air conditioner is also flakey. The air flow will switch from one vent to another or completely stop when the car isn’t as hot/or cold as the temperature switch on the dash is set. This is more noticeable with the air conditioner. Occasionally, I have felt very cold air come out of the vents, so the system seems to work; the problem seems to be with the controller. Sunday when it was very hot in the car, the temp indicator was set to maximum cold position, and the vent and fan speed were in automatic, the recirculate light came on, the air was recirculating, and the air coming out of the vents was not cold. At times, the fan would switch off completely.

We took it to a dealer to get a diagnosis and the dealer told us it's a faulty coolant temperature sensor, needs a tuneup (which was just done in November), needs to have the throttle body cleaned, and probably has a vacuum leak that is causing the AC to act up.

We've called 3 parts dealers who say they don't list a coolant temperature sensor for a 1993 960.

My questions for you: Does this car have a coolant temperature sensor? If so, where do we find one.

Any other suggestions for things we should try to fix our problems?

Thanks very much for any help you can give me!

Terry
