insturment panel fried 700

well after all my problems with my spedometer i found that there was a curcit that was fried it was in a place that was replaceable so i skiped it with a wire that looks like what you were suposed to do so after i did this i started the car and then my freind told me that there was smoke so i look at another part of the insturment panel and there was smoke bellowing up so i pull of the wire really fast and that stoped it but what could be doing this too my insturment panel i need to know how fast i am going is there like a voltage regulator or something like that any help would be great thanks alot
