You probably remember the my post on Brain Teaser and the stumble and stalling problem I had. Well I thought I had it fixed when I replaced the FI solinoid.
A week went by and it started up again. Well I dragged a Tech off his rack kicking and screaming out to the curb and said FIND IT. I started the car up and it was running like crap. He pulled his meter out and starting probing.
He pinned it down to the AMM. I went in and dropped $275 and got a new AMM.
I sent him back to his rack. 12 minutes later I had the new AMM installed. Started the car up and she immediatly died. Now I'm pissed. Started digging around found a ground wire from the engine to the firewall rotted and in pieces $7.00. Made a quick fix till the Monday when the new braided one comes in. Started the car up again, ran like crap. Started digging deeper looking for Holes in hoses and checking vaccumm lines. The very last hose connection I checked was the problem. Doesn't it alway's work out that way. The intake hose for the turbo had slipped off the turbo. It was laying on the opening of the Turbo. It looked like it was connected and secure. The only way I saw it, was the clamp was missing. It was one of those it doesn't look right what's wrong with this picture. As far as the AMM goes I kept the new one the old one was shot or close to it. It was still working but it was on it's last legs.
When they checked my old AMM with a meter, it was pulling more resistance then spec. It may have totally gone tomorrow, next week or next year. Had I found the hose first I would have saved $275 today but when and where would have the AMM finally died. You have to remember this was the original unit with 255,000 miles on it. Moral of the story is "If your running elevated boost check the clamps on your hoses and intercooler more often."
