Hello fellow Volvophiles. I own an '83 245 non-turbo that has had an aforementioned problem of hard starting when the engine is cold. The real bugger is the it is intermittent, so sometimes it just starts right up. Other times, however, it takes approximately 10-15 seconds of cranking to get it to turn over. After it starts, it runs great, and starts normally even after only running for a few seconds. I sprayed some carb cleaner around the injetors and manifold while the engine was running. I am also assuming that the temp sender works, because my temp guage still works (go figure). I went to the dealer and talk to the head mechanic, who said it could be a hundred things, but one possibility was the check valves in the fuel line that hold the line pressure while the engine is off. Therefore, he said to replace the fuel pump. I just wanted to run this by you guys to see if that made sense to you, or if you have had the same problem. Thank you for your help, and sorry for the long winded essay, I mean post.
