My Brick will not stay running (WHY)?



I bought this 1984 volvo 240 DL for $1,200 it ran really quiet and started easy when it was already warmed up. But in the morning it would not start easy at all. I would turn the key and it would turn over and stay running but the dash lights would not go off until I push on the gas. Then when the lights go off the car would put and gargle and smoke out the tail pipe. Now the car will turn over and run then die. I unhooked the air mass meter to see if it was bad but the car still will not stay running. The plugs are brand new I only had them on for a month and they are dark black with oil deposits on it. What can I do to fix this? volvo240guy@aol.com
