Hi All,
My '97 964 is nearing the 70K mark (69,4XX miles right now) and I intend to give it to a dealer or independent shop for changing the timing belt in the next week or so.
I got conflicting info about this service. According to the dealer, only the timing belt needs to be changed and they take a long, hard look at the tensioner for any sign of trouble. Water pump is not changed. An indy Volvo guy advises changing all of them (timing belt, water pump and the tensioner).
The timing belt will be changed (no questions or confusion).
Should I
- play it safe and have them put new tensioner and new water pump ?
- have them put new tensioner, fix the water pump when it breaks ?
- trust the long, hard look at the tensioner and leave the tensioner and water pump as is ?
Your advice/opinion is much appreciated. Thanks in advance.
