Pulled back on the steering wheel, it moves about a 1/4 to 1/2 an inch??? 200 1980

Hi all,
My 1980 244 DL with manual steering has what seems to be slop in the steering column. Is there something that gets loose here? Not real familiar with the manual setup. Imagine its linked to the side to side slop I feel. I have checked the components under the car, they all seem tight. Guess its in the column itself. Thanks for any help you can provide.
