Head Pipe 200 1993

My mechanic, very trustworthy, just told me the head pipe on my '93 245 (97,000 miles +)is starting to leak from beneath the heat shield. Apparently, a common problem as moisture gets between the pipe and the heat shield it eventually corrodes the pipe. Expensive to fix around $450.00.

Any cheaper solutions? Thanks
