Hey guys, I wrote in a week ago about a dandy oil leak under my '87 740 no turbo. It ended up being a rear seal. This is what I don't understand-when I got the transmission out of the way, torque converter, flex plate, etc., the rear seal was out of the housing on one side. No wonder oil was gushing out. Anyway, I've got the new seal installed, all put back together and working fine, but my question remains, have any of you ever saw a rear seal come out of it's housing before? I'm pretty sure it was the original seal. I put in a new flame trap as a safety precaution. I was reading in the forums about someone testing for a vaccuum on the filler cap, so I tried mine, and the cap danced around a bunch, and some oil droplets flew around some. Am I supposed to have vaccuum here, or pressure, did it have too much and pop the rear seal out? What do you all think??
