Runs Warm 200 1984

84 245Ti:

History: Temp gauge always ran in the middle (1/2) on hottest days with a/c on. Car was in a front end collision last summer; intercooler, a/c condensor, radiator and waterpump were replaced. Car started running warm as soon as I had it back on the road; something obviously had changed.

Over the past months I have continued to tweak the car; thoroughly cleaned the exterior of condensor and intercooler, installed a new Nissens 3-row metal radiator and replaced the thermostat. Car runs very well; but still wants to run warm (3/4 and higher; not yet into red but summers coming) on long climbing grades even with a/c off. This did not happen before the accident.

Only thing I have not replaced is the water pump which the body shop doing the repairs had installed; which I suspect was an el Cheapo part.

Can a cheap (but new 9 months ago) waterpump make that much of a difference in maintaining engine coolant temp?

Any other ideas?

Thanks!

Robert
