K&N filter? 700

I checked my air cleaner element a couple days ago and it looks brand new. After considering the facts, I've decided the safest way to go would be to install a K&N performance filter to gain more power. These things are supposed to increase fuel economy as well. Right now I'm wondering which route I should take: Should I just get a Filtercharger element or should I get an intake kit?

If I did just get a Filtercharger element, what would be some options to make the factory airbox less restrictive?
