I just had my clutch replaced on my 1986 240DL. It was pretty bad, but driveable, but I was getting the rear seal fixed and the clutch seemed a good thing to tackle at the same time, no additional labor.

Well I just drove the car home and there is this HUGE shudder when starting out in 1st gear (4spd manual w/overdrive). The mechanics of course noticed this when driving and noted to me that the shudder was because the center support was weak, and recommended I go to a body shop for rust repair.

However, this shudder was TOTALLY nonexistant before I had the seal and clutch replaced. The shudder was so bad I was afraid I was not going to make it across the highway when making a turn and starting in first. Like the whole car is falling apart...yet once you shift into second and on up, everything is fantastic. Can a weak center support just suddenly appear and cause this big shudder?

This is a very reputable Volvo shop (non-dealer), not some shade-tree mechanic.

Please advise, I picked up the car just as they were closing but want to call first thing tomorrow!
