pulling out the outer tie rod end 200 1990

Hello,
Has anyone used a puller to disconnect the outer tie rod end. I am hoping you bought one that fits from a typical auto store to save me the trouble of running through all the auto stores in town.
I bought a puller but it does not quite fit beacuse I do not have much room between the bolt(for the puller) and the plate or disc that the tie rod sits against.
