Fuel Injector spray pattern 700 1988

My question is whether or not the spray pattern is correct. Here's the story. I have removed the fuel rail and injectors from the car for cleaning. I have attached a windshield washer pump with a short length of hose to an injector, filled a coffee can with injector cleaner, and attached a flashlight battery to the injector electrical connection. When the injector solenoid is opened and the pump is running, injector cleaner runs through the injector and into an empty coffee can. Disconnect the flashlight battery and the flow of cleaner stops.

What I am observing is that the injectors start and shut off cleanly. However, the spray pattern is a steady stream, not a mist. Picture a garden hose with the nozzle adjusted to spray a stream of water straight ahead.

These injectors are the originals; car has 220K miles. Are they worn out? Is it time for replacement or is there another cleaning method? Thanks in advance for all input.
