i'm now a lucky owner of a 1983 GL. a very nice sister-in-law gave me this car
because she didn't want to spend the money to get it fixed.instead, she bought herself an S-60. it has been stucked (dead) in her garage for at least 8 months. and that's just a conservative estimate. to cut the story short, i got it running by simply replacing the ECU with one that i picked from the junkyard. now, it's running great. for its age and mileage (175k) anyway. the only problem is the overdrive on this 4 speed tranny (M46). i pushed that little button on the shifter and nothing happens. the indicator light does not come on either. the engine runs at about 3k rpm at 55 mph. i'm in dire need of help. how do i even begin to troubleshoot this system? i got a Haynes and Chilton manual and neither one's even got a decent coverage of the subject.
