I have a '87 740 turbo wagon with auto trans (AW71?). I use this to tow an enclosed 5'x5'x8'utility traier fully loaded about 950 lbs. I notice that the trans is "slipping" by about 250 rpm at 60mph compared to without the trailer. This is in over drive. I usally take it out of over drive for any hills etc. Leaving out of over drive seems to really wind up the engine and also only gives 12 mpg. Will I harm the trans by leaving it in OD? I am not exactly sure how the auto trans works but am assuming that it is a fluid coupling and the sliping is only heating the fluid more that normal and as long as it does not get to hot than no damage should occur. Is this correct? I usally change the fluid once a year. Thanks
