After having relatives mention (read: complain) about my headlights during a recent visit, I decided some action was necessary. I cleaned the insides of both headlights following the FAQ procedures, installed Sylvania XraVision lamps, and spent about 45 minutes adjusting/driving/adjusting/driving/-adjusting/driving the headlight aim. I'm pleased to report that the difference was very noticeable. The lights now have some "authority", rather than the wimpy diffused personality previously exhibited (....are the lights on?). Three items worthy of note: 1. measured voltages at the headlamp sockets were 12.9 to 13.0 volts. I was very pleased to see this, as it made the decision of whether to install relays a little easier. 2. One Xtravision lamp was installed prior to the cleaning, and, side-by-side with the regular lamp, was noticeably brighter. 3. Cleaning the headlight interiors did quite a bit to eliminate beam scatter.
All in all the procedure is highly recommended, but extreme care is necessary to avoid plastic breakage (I pulled the headlights out of the foglight/headlight assembly unitg. If I did it again, I'd pull the entire assembly out, as a whole unit. Thanks!!
