Alternator belt adjustment 740 turbo '90 700 1990

I attempted to tighten my alternator belt but the adjustment bolt was to its max. So I purchased a new belt and a bit shorter but it caused the fly wheel of the alternator to scrape against the mount. So then I thought that I should just purchase a "true" volvo belt from the dealer to get it right and all that did was get me back to my first problem (the adjustment is at its maximum adjustment with a lose belt). The next thing I did was to replace all the alternator bushings thinking they were worn out. With some improvment, the belt still remains a little lose and the adjustment bracket remains at its maximum. Any ideas? Thanks for the time.

Todd
