I have a 1991 740 turbo with a 5 speed manual - 212,000 miles on the odometer. The turbo was replaced at 180K with a refurbished mitsubishi. Recently, last night, the car died during acceleration in first gear and I had to pull into a parking lot. After several restarts and sputtering to a stop, I finally got the car to remain running. Now when the RPM goes over 4000 there is no acceleration and the turbo boost gauge fluctuates wildly. It may be noteworthy that the turbo gauge never has moved past the three quarter mark, since its replacement. Does this seem to indicate an issue with the turbo, the waste gate, or could it be the timming belt (whcih hasn't been replace in the last 75K)?
