Glow In the Dark Exhaust Manifold- Timing Is Everthing 1800

"Timing is everthing." My hats off to those who suggested retarded timing as the cause of the Exhaust manifold turning cherry red. I never would have suspected that because the previous owner had the car "tuned" by a "mechanic" last fall: New spark plugs, point's, defective NAPA coil, etc. When I checked it yesterday at idle timing was 5 degrees after top dead center.

But when I advanced the timing I could't get the idle below 2,000 rpm with throttle stop screwed fully backed out and throttle cable loosened. Then I started looking for intake vacuum leaks. I think 2 hoses were reversed: the one from the flame trap and the one from the auxiliary air valve. When I reversed the m the auxiliary air valve was sucking air with a warm engine. When I blocked the auxiliary air valve with my thumb the engine idle was at 900rpm.

Apparently the previous "mechanic"??? used the timing to adjust the idle.

With the timing advanced it rolls down the highway at 65mph like my old 122s barely depressing the accelerator.

GCP has new auxiliary air valves for $99.53. Does anyone else sell them cheaper?
I plan to block auxiliary valve intake with duck tape until I get a new on and live with hard cold start until then.
