Door Handle : Hard to pull, reccomendations on fixing? 200

Ok, I have had this problem on two of my 240 volvos... As the car got older the handle needs more energy to open the door. On one I tightend the adjuster inside the door and that helped for awile, it soon was so tough to open my finace' could not open it, then it broke. Now, my fiance's volvo is experiencing simmilar problems with her drivers door handle. I hope someone has a workable solution. Thanks!
